Global Career Launch
June - Aug
2009

Deep down, I knew I could do many things.
Now I feel ready for anything
.

Global Career Launch is a 6-week summer internship programme organized by the Association for International Practical Training (AIPT) and offers university students an opportunity to live and work in the United States. Last summer, I was selected as one of the 76 interns to work in a non-profit making organization, Artspan, in San Francisco and joined the AIPT Globalization Conference in Las Vegas. By creating a platform for artists, Artspan aims at connecting the public to visual arts. During the internship, I learnt to manage art galleries, promote art to the community and communicate with artists.

During my stay in the U.S., I was exposed to quite a different environment and culture. The most valuable and rewarding thing I got from the internship was the chance to see another side of American society. In San Francisco, I lived in an area with a lot of homeless people, beggars and people with mental disabilities. This experience has certainly led me to realize there is the need to create more opportunities for people, especially for the most disadvantaged in our society.
