FIFE Fund was launched at HKU

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) launched the "First-in-the-Family Education Fund" (FIFE Fund) and announced a generous donation of HK$1million per year for five years from Mr Yeung Kwok Keung, Chairman of Country Garden Holdings Ltd, at a press conference in April 2008.

 

Present at the press conference were Mr Yeung Kwok Keung (Chairman of Country Garden Holdings Ltd), Mr David Wong (representative from HKU Foundation and Chairman of Steering Committee of the FIFE Fund), Mr Cho Chi Ming (Executive Director of Hong Kong Economic Journal Ltd.), Professor Lap-Chee Tsui (Vice-Chancellor of HKU), and Dr Albert Chau (Dean of Student Affairs of HKU).

 

event_04b楊國強先生:『我自己都是香港人,所以想為香港社會做點貢獻...我試過窮,知道窮的艱難。我十八歲以前沒穿過新衫新鞋,從一無所有到現在,我知道教育很重要,好的教育可以令人有上進心 ...。 』

 

event_04c曹仁超先生:『我後悔出生的太早,如果遲四十年出生,一定是此計劃的受惠者。我會望大學而輕嘆...一生最大的遺憾是未經過大學生的生活。知識是力量,學問可以改變一生,我的小小心願是年輕人能夠因入讀大學而改變生命,享受做大學生的生活 ...。』

 

event_04d曹先生即席戴上由學生會會長郭永健同學致送的復刻版校呔,表示很想做大學生!

 

event_04eevent_04f文學院三年級的徐航及法律學院的朱家銘同學因為家庭經濟狀況而未能出國交流或實習,感覺遺憾。雖然不能成為計劃的受惠者,他們亦希望有需要的同學能透過這個助學金,擴闊視野,增益學習。
