U21 Summer School at Glasgow, United Kingdom

I have always believed technology is the key to change our future world. Thanks to the support of the FIFE Fund, I had the valuable chance to join the U21 Summer School. With the theme “Cities and Citizens in the Digital Age”, the programme includes a series of seminars and field trips, demonstrating how new technologies can be applied to support and improve a city.

It is always easy to say we have to change a city to make it better for citizens; however, it is always difficult to identify what has to be done and how to put the ideas into practice.

The most inspiring lecture I had was about children’s environments. In the realm of city development, children are a group easily forgotten. We are used to limiting their needs to school and home, but in fact the size of green space and how actively they use it will affect their growth and future thinking about the environment. Rather than building the city for them, what we should probably do is to nurture the right way of thinking. And this is the greatest lesson I learnt in the past summer.
